Speed Cameras Activated in City

Posted on 10/26/2026

Through the Los Angeles Department of Transportation's (LADOT) Speed Safety System pilot program, cameras will detect vehicles traveling at least 11 mph over the posted speed limit. Designed with privacy protections, the cameras capture license plate information needed for enforcement, not drivers' faces.

Beginning October 26, 2026, the first cameras will activate with a 60-day warning period before citations are issued.

Similar programs are already showing promising results. Oakland reported a 70% reduction in excessive speeding at camera locations, while San Francisco reported an 84% reduction.

Hear from City leaders, traffic safety advocates, and crash survivors about how automated speed enforcement could help prevent tragedies and make Los Angeles streets safer for everyone.
